[ Yosuke hums, taking one more kiss for the record. But there's a pause before he pulls back with a more sour expression. ]

Ugh, but it's a friggin' Wednesday. Why does it have to be in the middle of the week?

Well, I can come pick you up from school. That'll give us all afternoon and evening. We can use the basement of the house.

[ Set up some mood lighting. ]

Yeah?

[ Yosuke visibly perks up at that. ]

Weird ghost basement isn't exactly my image of romantic, but...I think we can make it work.

With the right mood lighting... some candles, some rose petals... I think it'll be pretty romantic. We just have to decide what we're making for dinner.

[ Leans in to bump their noses together in an Eskimo kiss. ]

Candles and rose petals...I can't tell if you're being serious or not.

[ No, he knows that Yu is. And it's so painfully romantic he can't even pretend that he isn't flattered at that sort of overly cliche gesture being made towards him. Because he knows that it comes from Yu's heart of sincerity.

He nuzzles Yu back. Who let them be this gross? ]

[ Which is actually not innuendo. ]

But, like--not burn your face off-spicy.

[ Teasingly, but still sincere. Of course he means it. He's a romantic at heart, and getting to lavish this kind of affection on another person fills his chest with fizzy happiness.

He'll laugh against his boyfriend's lips, catching the unintended innuendo. ]

Curry?

[ That makes Yosuke laugh too and he pulls back a few inches. ]

Man, I feel bad 'cause that's like what I always ask for. Am I that boring?

You're perfect.

[ Yu leans in for a long, satisfying kiss. ]

We can make anything you want. If it's curry, it's curry. We could try a different style, like Indian curry instead of Japanese.

[ He's never gonna say no to that. Yosuke sighs when they break apart. But the idea gets a lightbulb to go off over his head. ]

Oh, that's an awesome idea! We can get their bas...something rice too. And the bread is pretty sweet.

Naan? [ A thoughtful hum as Yu shifts so he can lean against his boyfriend. ] That's a good idea. I don't know if I want to try making naan, but we could order something fresh to have with the curry we make. We should think about what we want to make for dessert, too.

[youraffection]

I know they have some like take and bake in your own oven kind at Freshens, even if it's not that authentic.

[ He starts to pick lint off Yu's knee. ]

Are we gonna stay on theme? 'cause I know they have like a lot of mango flavored shit that is bomb.

[ He doesn't actually get further than that syllable before he pauses, looking off to one side rather abruptly as if something has distracted him. His eyes are a little wide.

After a moment he actually shifts his legs so he's not sitting across Yosuke's lap anymore. His palms are pressed into the bed as he stares down at the bedspread, his fingers slowly curling.

It's an extended moment before he looks up again, and when he does, his eyes are wet. ]

Yosuke--

[ He twists, reaching out to grip his boyfriend's shoulders. His voice trembles. ]

Yosuke-- Nanako, she's--

[ Ah. Tears start to fall freely, and he can't stop them. ]

... she's alive -- Yosuke, she's -- Nanako is still alive, she's not--

[ He pulls a hand back to press it over his mouth, tears continuing to fall. ]

...Yu?

[ That look--he knows that look. He's seen it a few times and it causes panic to well up in his chest. Yu is seeing something that he can't, but...but after the last month, after everything Yu has been through.

God...let it be something good.

Yu doesn't need any more reasons to doubt himself.

He's anxiously waiting, seconds feeling like hours, until Yu shifts. Yosuke straightens immediately, worry written all of his face. ]

...Yu--

[ Yu's name is cut off by Yosuke's own as his boyfriend faces him. Those tears--god, no, has he--

His eyes widen. ]

What?

[ She's--Yu thought he'd--

He places his hands on either side of Yu's face, relief washing over him as he smiles. Don't make him cry too, Yu. ]

Yeah? Yeah...that's great news, dude. See? I knew you wouldn't let her down.

[covenantal]

[ It's too late. Yu is completely gone, breaking down into heartbreakingly relieved sobs. He tries to smile through his tears, and though it's weak, it's there. ]

Sh-she's okay... she's still in the hospital, but--

[ He lifts his hands to curl them over Yosuke's, smiling and crying and totally overwhelmed. ]

Thank god...

[youraffection]

She's okay.

[ He repeats with Yu, bringing their faces close together. He wipes away some of the tears with his thumbs and kisses away a few others. ]

You didn't let her down, Yu. You didn't let anyone down.

[covenantal]

She's okay.

[ He feels like he's falling to pieces. For so long he'd been carrying the horrible guilt of his little sister's death, believing he'd failed her, that she was gone because of him--

And it's ... it's not perfect, but ... she's still alive ... she's still alive ... as long as that's true, everything else will be okay, no matter what. ]

No matter what happens... as long as that's true... I can handle everything else.

[ Even through his tears there's a blazing hope burning in his chest, a determination that wasn't there before. It's there in his smile, a subtle, different kind of confidence. ]

[youraffection]

[ This is something he's very grateful.

This is the fucking break Yu needed. He'd been doing so much better recently, finally accepting that he's worthwhile no matter what happened in a previous life, but he knows that doesn't fix everything. But this? This...ths is good.

This is very good.

Yosuke smiles and nods, smoothing his thumbs along Yu's cheekbones. ]

I know you can.

[covenantal]

[ Yu will end up wrapping his arms around Yosuke's shoulders, pulling his boyfriend close, laughing and crying into his hair and skin. It will take him a pretty long time to calm down.

Eventually: ]

I should tell the others. Souji, especially...

[youraffection]

[ Yosuke holds Yu as long as he needs it and then a few moments after. ]

I'm sure they're all gonna be thinking the same thing.

[ "Of course, Yu. You wouldn't let her down." ]

[covenantal]

[ Yu grins as he sits up and wipes away the last of his tears. ]

... yeah. You're probably right. I'd like to tell Souji in person, though. Think you could walk me down?

[youraffection]

[ Yosuke nods, pulling out of the embrace so he can stand up and then offer his hands to Yu. ]

Only if you don't ask me to carry you back up the stairs.

[covenantal]

No promises.

[ Cheeky as anything. He'll take those hands to help himself stand up, and as soon as he's feet he'll draw Yosuke into his arms for a long, deep kiss.

He's so grateful for this person he loves so much. ]
