[ Ah.

Well, he tried. Finally Yu smiles again. ]

Well, it was worth a try.

[ The cafe thankfully isn't too far. Yu will explain as they walk in: ]

I like to find different places to do homework after school. I just found this place recently, but it's really nice, and very lively.

[ He's not wrong: there's a ton of people there, everyone chattering away. Yu will start their search for a table before even going up to order. ]

[ Oh yeah, he's seen this place before. Not really stopped in, but he would have had he known it was such a hot spot. Yosuke's eyes widen slightly once they're inside, scanning the room as he takes everything in. It's a good atmosphere--upbeat, busy, but not overwhelming. Just like people are having a good time. ]

Yeah, it is. [ He doesn't even think to look for a table, at first. ] I walk by this place all the time but I never go here. Huh.

[ He probably should though, shouldn't he?

And, just on cue, two girls are leaving a small table by one of the windows. ]

Oh, hey!

[ Yu watches Yosuke out of the corner of his eye, wondering if his friend approves. The wide eyes are a little hard for him to figure out, but Yosuke isn't making a face, so he assumes this is approval. Which is good.

He tries to tell himself he isn't sure why he cares so much.

With a flash of a grin, there and gone, Yu will head for the table that just got freed up and drop his school bag into one of the chairs. ]

That was lucky. It's usually pretty hard to grab a table here around this time. Do you wanna go grab something, or sit down for a bit first?

[ Hopefully Yu's doubts are lifted by the time they sit down, because Yosuke is wearing a wide grin as he tosses his bag onto the surface. What? Window seats are prime real estate. Their timing was actually prefect, which was likely due to Yu's luck and not his. ]

Yeah, you're telling me! Perfect timing.

[ Thumbs up. ]

Uh, well, how hungry are you? Should one of us save the seats?

[ Yeah, that is reassuring. Yosuke's smiles always light up his whole face. It's--

Well, Yu decides not to think about that right now. ]

Not very, but I think I would like something to drink. Do you want anything? I can order for us both.

[ He really doesn't want to lose the window seat, so he's down with Yu's suggestion. ]

Yeah, sure. Um...

[ He glances towards the front, not really being able to see the menu very well. ]

Just some coffee? Do they have any fancy flavors?

[ He reaches into his back pocket to pull out his wallet, fishing a few single bills out before handing them to Yu. ]

Not that I need it fancy, but if you're paying for it might as well go all the way, right?

[ Logic. Wink! ]

[ Gives Yosuke kind of a Look, his eyebrows disappearing beneath the fringe of his hair. Flatly, though with an undeniable note of humor: ]

Taking advantage of my good nature... I should have known a schemer like you would try it. Well, you've twisted my arm. The fanciest coffee, coming right up.

[ And he'll disappear to go order before Yosuke can add anything more. This is what you get, bro. If Yosuke wants fancy, he'll get fancy. ]

[ Wait, he didn't actually-- ]

Hey--

[ Or, well...that didn't come off weird, did it? Now Yosuke feels a little guilty, even if he did contribute a couple of bills. ACTUAL fancy coffees can get kind of pricey, he's just adventurous enough to go with a pump of vanilla or something. Guess he'll have to see what Yu comes up with.

So Yosuke plops down in the chair somewhat lazily and takes a look around the place again. ]

In the end, what happens is this: Yu doesn't actually know what Yosuke likes and doesn't want to mess it up, so the coffee isn't that fancy. It actually is vanilla, since that seems like a safe flavor choice. Other than that, there's not much going on.

Except for the foam. The foam is fancy as fuck.

It's a cat. The foam is a cat. As Yu returns with two lattes in hand, he's got a kind of shameless grin on his face. ]

One fancy coffee. [ Sets it down in front of Yosuke. Even Yu's own drink doesn't have, like, fancy cat foam. That was a Yosuke exclusive. ] I know cats are your favorite.

[ He...is so not expecting that. Maybe he should have considering it's Yu and the twins' obsession with cats, but that this was even the kind of places to do the fancy coffee art hadn't even crossed his mind.

Yosuke's eyes widened. ]

Holy shit. Is this for real?

[ He immediately straightens in his seat, almost afraid to touch the mug lest he mess up the art. Glancing between his and Yu's, though. ]

--Wait, are you sure this isn't yours? You're the resident crazy cat lady.

[ He looks like he wants to burst out laughing and is just barely restraining himself. ]

Oh, me? No, I don't take my coffee fancy. It's all yours, Yosuke. After all, you asked.

[ Yu will slide into his seat and sip his own coffee, the picture of innocence. ]

[ Ugh, Yu takes it black? Why did Yosuke assume the guy would like to put at least something a little more in it. Now Yosuke feels a little less manly with this...foamy cat staring at him.

Cats. Totally his favorite.

(Honestly, Yosuke has nothing against cats in particular, he's just not a big animal person. And the twins seem to really. Really. Like them.)

Yosuke blinks, staring incredulously at his coffee. ]

How'd they even do that? I'm not used to having my food smiling at me.

It's foam art. Not all cafés do it, but this one does. That's why it's one of my favorites. It's impressive, isn't it?

[ Sips his coffee again. Aren't you going to enjoy your coffee, Yosuke? ]

Uh, yeah? Of course it is! Just...

[ Okay, Yosuke picks up the cup and is practically staring down the little smiling cat face. ]

...am I supposed to feel bad for eating it? ...This is stupid.

[ Is he being stupid? ]

[ That makes Yu laugh, a soft, low sound that rumbles up from his chest. ]

Maybe a little. It is pretty cute, isn't it? There's a reason I don't get the foam art anymore. It's always too cute to destroy.

Ugh, I don't even like cats like you guys do, but it is pretty cute...

[ That hurts to admit.

Look what a big person he is by saying it, though.

Still, he know it's just coffee foam so after a silent goodbye to the happy cat, Yosuke takes a sip. And is pleasantly surprised. ]

Oh, that is good!

[ His smile turns a little pleased. ]

I was just guessing at what you'd like, so I'm glad you enjoy it. A vanilla latte seemed like a safe bet.

I'm safe?

[ He almost sounds disappointed, what with his hardened reputation that they both know he doesn't have. ]

Nah, it's good. Even with the cat staring at me. Thanks, man.

[ A pause. ]

Maybe I should have said dependable.

[ With a flicker of a smile that grows into something real when Yosuke thanks him. ]

It's no trouble. Did you want to start with math or with music?
