Well, I think you've got a pretty good start, in that case.

I've had a lot of help, [ he demurs, but he's still smiling. ]

By the way, I have something for you.

[ He puts down the spoon into the curry, almost bouncing on the bench. ]

You wanna go first then?

[ a slow blink, and a tilt of his head. Someone's excited.

With a slight smile Yu will set down his own spoon, reaching into the other bag he brought along. Out of this he pulls a squashy, oddly shaped present. It's not soft or anything, it just feels like whatever items are in it are loose. But it's nicely wrapped, and Yu will hold it out. ]

I have two things. This is the first.

[ Of course he's excited. He spent a lot of time picking out the gift he that he got for Yu, and who doesn't like receiving things too?

But what is this? ]

[ Yosuke will accept the package, turning it over in his hands. ]

Do I get a hint?

Just a reminder that I do have another gift, [ he says, with a weird look on his face like he can't decide if he wants to laugh or not.

...I'm not sure if you think I'm badass enough that I need to wear these, which kinda lose it with the stickers, or if you think we're gonna need 'em sometime soon--

[ Ok, to be fair, that reaction makes Yu start to laugh. He lowers his face into his hand, still chuckling and smiling wryly. Once he recovers he'll turn his head so his cheek is resting on his palm instead and smile at his boyfriend. ]

It's because you're my knight in shining armor. [ grins a little more broadly. ] Karkat and Anya suggested it.

[ Yosuke is just so not sure what to think?? It's so random he feels like it has to be thoughtful in some strange way... ]

[ Well. Now it makes sense.

But Yu is so happy. So silly and happy.]

It looks more like I'm your knight in cat sticker'd armor, to be honest.

[ Yu sits up so he can press a kiss to Yosuke's cheek. ]

Here. [ He pulls out another gift, this one much smaller. He toys with it in his fingers for a moment, a quiet sign of nervousness, before holding it out. ]

This is the real gift.

[ Yosuke sighs. His...silly, but wonderful Yu.

Then, blinks. He knows Yu had said there was another gift, but now he's not sure what to expect. So he reaches out, carefully turning what appears to be a small box in his hands. ]

Is it also covered in cats?

[ Joking. Mostly.

Mostly.

But it's not covered in cats, he finds out, as he opens the box slowly and--

--is that...what he thinks it is? ]

[ It sure is a ring.

Yu lifts a hand to rub the back of his neck, glancing away. ]

When we met, I noticed you wore a ring. So I thought I'd ...

[ ... ]

Is it too much?

[ It's--

--It's a really awesome looking ring, is what it is. But the implications of getting a ring from one's S.O. isn't at all lost on Yosuke. He knows that Yu is a very sentimental person...and honestly, he can totally see Yu being the kind of guy who'd buy his girlfriend jewelry, and the occasional ring is or necklace is usually all that Yosuke does wear... ]

I...

[ Yosuke gulps, eyes darting back between Yu's face and the ring. ]

It's--it's really cool, dude.

[ Maybe Yu doesn't mean it that way--he can't, right? He's just--being thoughtful Yu and totally nailing Yosuke's aesthetic. ]

A ring just makes me think--

[ Don't say it!! ]

[ HE KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN THIS WAS A MISTAKE ]

No, no! No, that's not what I-- that is, I just thought it suited you. It's ... we're only teenagers, [ he murmurs with an embarrassed huff.

(The idea that Yosuke might guess at his domestic bliss daydreams is pretty mortifying.) ]

[ HE SHOULDN'T HAVE SAID ANYTHING!! He's totally overthinking it again and now he's going to make it super weird, isn't he? ]

N-No! I mean--

[ GAH! ]

--y-yeah! We're just really young and, uh--

[ Let him die now. ]

It's--it's really cool! I mean it. It's totally me! So it's--um...

[ Yosuke forces himself to look down at the ring, shutting himself up. Then, after a contemplative moment, he carefully takes it from the box and slides it on the...index finger of his right hand. You know. An ambiguous finger. ]

wait so is the only problem with the implication of a ring the fact that they're too young as in--

would Yosuke be, like--

Yu has to clear his throat, feeling like he wants to sink into the ground and disappear. But then Yosuke puts the ring on, and Yu can't help admiring it. Softly: ]

It looks good on you.

[youraffection]

[ This is so embarrassing. But, at the same time, now that he's got it on, it...

It's kind of nice thinking he can have something of Yu with him wherever he goes? Gah, that's so cheesy. ]

Y-Yeah...

[ He laughs awkwardly, looking up to catch Yu's gaze and appearing suddenly a little out of breath. ]

I guess you've got good taste, huh?

[covenantal]

[ Yu doesn't say it out loud,

but the way his expression goest soft and sweet and impossibly, speechlessly fond says it for him. He's not looking at the ring when he says, ]

Yeah. I must.

[youraffection]

[ G'dammit, Yu. Stop making his heart go all fluttery. The pink in his cheeks isn't just from the cold.

He fumbles. ]

I-I got something for you too!

[ He turns and grabs his bag, pulling out a box that's wrapped in...yeah, cat-themed wrapping paper. He holds it out. ]

[covenantal]

I love you, [ he says, a little helplessly.

But he'll take the gift, laughing quietly at the paper. Quickly he'll steal one of Yosuke's hands to press a kiss to his fingers before opening the gift up. What's inside...? ]

[youraffection]

[ See, that? That makes his heart flutter again.

He watches a little nervously, hoping that his gift will make Yu as happy as Yu makes him. When he opens the package, Yu will find another box, rather light. It's software, so it might not have the flash of a ring or gauntlet, but... ]

[covenantal]

[ Good god. You could knock him over with a feather. The look on his face is outright reverent as he lifts the box out of the paper. ]

... Yosuke, I--

[ This must have cost a fortune, he thinks. Yosuke got something like this, for him...?

Stunned into speechlessness, Yu can't do a thing except lean over and press a grateful kiss to his boyfriend's lips. ]

Thank you. I... [ a soft laugh. ] Wow.

[youraffection]

[ Not as bad as you'd think, Yu. And Yosuke doesn't have to pay rent or anything, so he gets to spend it on the things he wants to spend it on. Like Yu.

At Yu's reaction, Yosuke smiles. He knows that Yu isn't the kind of person for overexcitement when he's pleased, so he knows that this is a happy Yu.

He laughs in turn. ]

Hey, the real surprise is that you could write music. I figure you should be able to do it easier now, right?

[covenantal]

[ His smile morphs into a grin. ]

Much. You're amazing, Yosuke.

[youraffection]

Nah.

[ He leans forward, stealing a short kiss. ]

Now you just get to write me more songs. Who's the real winner, here?
