[ He is alight with happiness. It's not often he's like this, bright and energetic and laughing, but when he is it's always sincerely felt.

Yu shakes his head, briefly folding his arms on the railing. ]

Haven't you ever seen Moulin Rouge?

[ The jungle gym isn't large, but it has a few platforms, and Yu will dance across them, singing as he goes, acting his heart out. ]

I sat on the roof and I kicked off the moss

They've got me quite cross
But the sun's been kind while I wrote this song...

[ He's back by the slide now, and he'll swing himself into it, popping up at the bottom to circle round and sing a little softer, smiling warmly. ]

It's for people like you that keep it turned on.

Uhh...

[ Yeah, mister big on pop culture here? Never seen it. Feel free to shame him ]

Oh shit, this is the song you sent me like...a couple weeks ago, right?

[ Yu only laughs. He makes his way over to Yosuke and presses a kiss to his cheek. ]

No, this is a different one. It's one the lead sings to the woman he's fallen in love with.

[ Softly, his eyes crinkled with fondness. He'll drift back a few steps, his fingers leaving Yosuke's face only when he gets too far to touch. ]

So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue!

[ He's really belting it, arms spread wide under the light of the moon. ]

Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes, I've ever seen!

You're kidding me.

[ Yu is singing a love song to Yosuke.

From Moulin Rogue. Yosuke is now Nicole Kidman? At least she's hot.

Oh my god, Yu. This is so strangely sweet and overly dramatic at the same time.

Yosuke looks a little nervous, glancing around the park like he's worried someone will notice or show up at any second. ]

D-Dude!

[ He rushes to his boyfriend, reaching out to grab onto his coat or--or something. ]

Someone's gonna hear you!

[ Yu only laughs and takes Yosuke's hands in his, tugging him into a dance. ]

There's no one around! It's just us.

[ But, alright. He makes his voice a little quieter for the next few lines: ]

And you can tell everybody that this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done...

[ He leans in for a kiss, and then stays close, singing so very, very softly. ]

I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words...
How wonderful life is, now you're in the world.

[ Is it possible to be embarrassed and swept off your feet at the same time? Yosuke's feeling a little torn between them. He has grown a lot in the past few months, becoming more and more comfortable with the idea of being in a relationship with another guy to the point that he doesn't think about Yu as another guy most of the time...as long as they're not in public. Technically they are, even if it's later in the evening, so he worries.

But...but, the gesture is just a little cheesy, a little cinematic, and somehow very earnest all at the same time. He thinks back to when Yu was so determined to dance with Yosuke at his housewarming party that they two of them just drunkenly swayed as Yu tried to get through a Disney song.

Does that mean it's twice that Yu has tried to serenade him with some movie ballad?

Geez.

(He's so lucky.)

He knows he's blushing, though he'll pretend it's the cold. Yu didn't need to write the lyrics for Yosuke to believe that he means them. ]

...--You're really something, Yu Narukami.

[ The center of his chest feels hollowed out, warm and soft as if it might simply collapse in on itself. You're probably the love of my life, he thinks but does not say, pulling Yosuke closer still and leaning in until their foreheads touch. ]

I love you, [ he whispers, which isn't really a reply, but also the only thing he can say. ]

[ He loves hearing Yu say that. It warms his heart and makes him feel so...full. Yosuke lets his eyes fall shut, unable to stop from smiling. Yes, he loves hearing Yu say that...

He...he loves Yu, doesn't he? ]

Yu--

[ Yosuke swallows.

And presses his lips firmly against the other boy's. ]

[ Yu happily leans into the kiss, humming a laugh against his boyfriend's lips and holding him tight.

They've had a lot of magical moments. But this has to rank up at the very top.

Eventually, with some reluctance, he'll pull away and boop their noses together. ]

Come on. The food's going to get cold.

Mm...yeah.

[ Yeah. The food is getting cold.

But Yosuke steals another kiss before he let's Yu really separate them properly. ]

Okay. Let's eat.

[ Okay.

Maybe one more kiss. Just one. Then tugs Yu back towards the bench. ]

[ Yu is laughing for real by the time Yosuke finally lets them part and leads them back towards the bench. ]

Are you sure you don't need one more? I won't complain.

[ With a kind of knowing grin as Yu retakes his previous seat. This time he'll dig into the curry properly, holding out the coffee thermos for Yosuke to take if he likes. ]

[ Yosuke nudges Yu with his foot once they sit down. And then take the thermos. ]

Maybe a few more, but I'll cash in on that later.

[ He takes a drink of coffee. ]

I still can't believe you just sang a Moulin Rouge song to me at a playground.

Is that so...? [ waggles his eyebrows

and nudges Yosuke's shoe back. He'll kind of glance away, at the sky, grateful that his earmuffs hide his surely pink ears. ]

... to be honest, I kind of can't believe it either. It was fun, though. [ A beat, and far more softly: ] And I meant it.

[ how wonderful life is... ]

[ Yosuke sets the thermos down as he lifts his spoon, only to slightly gawk at his boyfriend. ]

You're such a ham, man...

[ He takes a scoop, but not a bite of the curry just yet. ]

...But, you know, music is kind of what brought us together, isn't it?

[ Yu nods slowly, his expression fond as he takes another bite. He didn't realize how hungry he was... Once he swallows: ]

We started doing homework together, didn't we? Until homework turned into just hanging out a few days a week, and then it was almost every day...

[ A sudden laugh, somewhat sheepish. ]

The more time we spent together, the bigger my crush on you got.

[ Yosuke nods as well, downing his spoonful with a smile. He swallows before going in for another helping. ]

Honestly...? I just thought you were kinda cool. And I thought it was even cooler that you wanted to hang out with him.

[ He downs that next spoonful before speaking again. ]

I guess we just both wanted an excuses to be around each other, huh?

[ Yu laughs again. ]

Yeah. In retrospect, we were kind of obvious, weren't we? But at the time I had no idea what you were thinking. You wanted to spend time with me, and it seemed like you even enjoyed it... you didn't think I was strange or standoffish. I couldn't believe my luck that someone like you really wanted to be around someone like me.

[ Yosuke tilts his head, regarding the other boy for a quiet moment. ]

See, that still gets me..."someone like you"? "Someone like me"? I guess I've never been the kinda person anyone felt lucky to hang out with, but you and you brother were already kind of the cool new guys by default. Y'know, coming in half way through your senior year in high school, being identical twins and everything. Plus you're kind of quiet in front of most people, so it was a little mysterious. You had an "it" factor.

[ He pokes at the curry. ]

I'm just that one guy in class who won't shut up and sleeps through the first period lectures.

[ A snort with a smile. ]

But I guess it paid off because it meant I could try to bum notes off of you so you'd talk to me.

[ Yu shakes his head, quiet for a moment while he takes a bite and thinks. There's a sort of bittersweet nostalgia on his face, sad and fond at once. ]

It didn't happen very often, as I had trouble making friends in the first place, but growing up, sometimes I'd drive people away. When I was younger the other kids would call me "creepy" because I never smiled. [ A soft huff through his nose. ]

Then Souji and I moved here, and everything changed. I didn't think I could be this happy.

[ With a flickering smile. ]

[ Yu doesn't talk about what it was like before moving to Recolle very often. Yosuke doesn't ask either--not because he doesn't want to know, but because he feels sort of like he's...encroaching on something. He's not sure why. So when Yu offers bits and pieces, he eats it right up. ]

Creepy, huh?

[ He'll poke Yu's cheek with the handle end of his spoon. ]

Clearly they didn't know you very well at all. The only thing about you that's creepy is the fact that both you and your brother are way too excited about shitty halloween costumes.

[ Some of their choices were downright horrifying. ]

You're a pretty amazing guy, Yu. It's their loss.

[ Yu blinks when Yosuke pokes his face with the spoon, lifting a hand to rub at his cheek. He just sits there kinda quiet for a moment, and then smiles in that sweet, heartmelted way he gets when Yosuke surprises him. ]

I don't know if that was always true, but ... with you and everyone else behind me, I think that's something I can grow to be.

[ Yosuke grins, offering the other boy a wink. ]

Well, I think you've got a pretty good start, in that case.

I've had a lot of help, [ he demurs, but he's still smiling. ]

By the way, I have something for you.

Oh yeah? Me too!

[ He puts down the spoon into the curry, almost bouncing on the bench. ]

You wanna go first then?

[ a slow blink, and a tilt of his head. Someone's excited.

With a slight smile Yu will set down his own spoon, reaching into the other bag he brought along. Out of this he pulls a squashy, oddly shaped present. It's not soft or anything, it just feels like whatever items are in it are loose. But it's nicely wrapped, and Yu will hold it out. ]
