Never mind, [ he murmurs, his voice soft with painful fondness. More clearly: ]
Yeah, the curry will get cold. Come on.
[ He'll cinch an arm around his boyfriend's waist to help keep him steady as they walk back to the bench. ]
Is it okay if we share the thermos? I didn't want to bring cups along.
[ The food -- Yosuke's favorite curry -- is in a thick tupperware in the warming bag, and they can simply share it. ]
no subject
Curry? Hell yes!
[ He'll happily plop down on the bench once they're close enough. ]
Share?
[ He raises a brow. ]
I dunno, man. What if we swap spit? It'd be like we're kissing or something...
[ He definitely wouldn't have been able to make a joke like that six months ago. Maybe even two months ago. But after everything, and just the general energy from the occasion has put Yosuke in a pretty good mood. ]
no subject
Kissing? Oh no, I could never.
[ Yu clears snow off the bench and also sits, setting the blanket on the ground and opening the warm bag. Out comes the pleasingly warm curry, the thermos of coffee, and some utensils. ]
Curry and coffee. I thought it'd help us warm up. Plus, this was one of the first things I made for you.
[ way back when. ]
no subject
...Huh, you're right. That day you showed me that first playlist, wasn't it?
[ He smiles at the memory, leaning back into the bench a bit. ]
Your curry is my favorite.
[ As he's told Yu on multiple occasions. ]
My mom makes curry sometimes, but it's just not the same.
no subject
That's right. I made it for you after our first fight, too. To apologize.
[ Carefully, his fingers a little clumsier through thick gloves, he peels the lid off. The air between them fills with the rich smell of curry. Yu hands Yosuke a spoon, taking the coffee for himself to start sipping at. ]
I still think you'd be a good swimmer. [ teasing. ]
no subject
That's right--you actually took winning me over with food seriously.
[ He shakes his head, taking the offered spoon. ]
I think you were way more worried about how pissed off I was than I was actually pissed off. Can't say I was mad about the peace offering, though.
[ Speaking of, he's about to dive in when he pauses at that final comment. ]
See, now I know you have ulterior motives.
[ He digs in, taking a spoonful. ]
You can't be trusted.
[ Munch, munch. ]
no subject
I really thought you'd stop talking to me because of it. Which wasn't your fault. Back then ... I wasn't used to anyone wanting to stay, yet.
[ stay with him. stay with plain quiet stoic boring Yu Narukami.
Yu takes another sip of the coffee, lifting his elbow to nudge it into Yosuke's side. ]
No more ulterior motive than tricking you into trying something new ... though I can't say I would have minded seeing you in a swimsuit three days a week.
[ very mildly, taking another placid sip of coffee. ]
no subject
[ He means that. It's...almost a moment.
Until Yu says that.
And Yosuke chokes on the curry. ]
That's an ulterior motive!
no subject
[ sip. ]
no subject
Six months ago, I never would've guessed you were like that...
no subject
I'm just full of surprises, aren't I?
[ there's a certain quiet tenderness in the way he says it. ]
no subject
[ Yosuke huffs. ]
You could say that again.
[ If Yu looks up, he'll notice that Yosuke's face is quite a bit closer. ]
no subject
He doesn't even think about it. His expression clears as he leans in to press his lips to Yosuke's. ]
no subject
He's okay with that. He likes it, even. Yosuke tilts his head to capture Yu's lips in return, a small motion that prolongs the kiss for just a little while. When he pulls back, he smiles. ]
...Meeting you at all was kind of a surprise...this is definitely a surprise, but...it's one I'm really grateful for.
no subject
Instead he shakes his head and ducks his chin, knowing at least that Yosuke will recognize he's lost for words.
It's only after an extended silence that he finally ventures, very quietly: ]
You might be the best thing that's ever happened to me.
no subject
--how i she supposed to honestly respond to that? Yosuke kind of gasps, straightening as he watches the other boy. Every once in a while Yu comes up with some of the most...ridiculously sweet things. Things that knock him of his feet, so it's probably good that he's sitting. ]
...D-Dude...
[ Yu's heard this before: ]
You can't just say things like that...
no subject
Shaking his head he sets the coffee down and gets to his feet, pacing a short distance away from the bench.
And when his voice comes, he isn't speaking. He's ... singing. ]
My gift is my song!
[ He glances over his shoulder, and all at once, he's smiling. ]
... and this one's for you.
[ uh oh. ]
no subject
...Yu?
[ What are you doing?
Oh my god, he's singing. ]
Are you seriously...?
no subject
remember how Yu is the one who took drama? ]
And you can tell everybody...
[ He's starting to really smile now. He extends an arm as if inviting Yosuke to reach out but instead dances a few steps back, towards the jungle gym ]
This is your song.
It may be quite simple but, now that it's done...
no subject
[ Yu! You're so...Yu! And silly and wonderful and he's so glad there's no one else in this park right now. It's hard to be too upset when Yu seem so happy, though, smiling to himself and being a little ridiculous. How can he resist?
Yosuke doesn't even try to. He sets down his spoon on the curry--and at least has piece of mind to put the lid back on it--as he kind of shuffles after Yu. ]
What're you doing??
no subject
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind,
That I put down in words...
[ Quickly he scurries up the ladder, and once he gets to the top he leans over the low railing that surrounds the platform and again holds out his hand. ]
How wonderful life is, now you're in the world!
no subject
How crazy is that?
Sometimes Yosuke thinks that it might have been inevitable that they would cross paths considering the memories they share, but he's seen Souji, too. Yu is just...different.
And silly.
Yosuke laughs, endeared and confused at the same time. ]
Are you seriously singing Elton John?
[ But how can he say no to that face? There's a dramatic sigh for effect before Yosuke reaches out to take Yu's hand. ]
no subject
Yu shakes his head, briefly folding his arms on the railing. ]
Haven't you ever seen Moulin Rouge?
[ The jungle gym isn't large, but it has a few platforms, and Yu will dance across them, singing as he goes, acting his heart out. ]
I sat on the roof and I kicked off the moss
Well some of these verses, well they,
They've got me quite cross
But the sun's been kind while I wrote this song...
[ He's back by the slide now, and he'll swing himself into it, popping up at the bottom to circle round and sing a little softer, smiling warmly. ]
It's for people like you that keep it turned on.
no subject
[ Yeah, mister big on pop culture here? Never seen it. Feel free to shame him ]
Oh shit, this is the song you sent me like...a couple weeks ago, right?
no subject
No, this is a different one. It's one the lead sings to the woman he's fallen in love with.
[ Softly, his eyes crinkled with fondness. He'll drift back a few steps, his fingers leaving Yosuke's face only when he gets too far to touch. ]
So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue!
[ He's really belting it, arms spread wide under the light of the moon. ]
Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes, I've ever seen!
