Perhaps you're wondering why the hell you are receiving a text at six in the morning but look, let's not sweat the small details. Pay attention to the larger ones, like the contents of this very important message: ]

Hello.

Through the tides of fate, you have been chosen to participate in this year's Valentine's Day event: Blind Dating. It is believed that no one should be alone for such an important day and as such, you have been paired up with another lonely soul.

[ Well, as promised, Yu wore his hideous bacon and eggs scarf to school today with absolutely no shame whatsoever. Any looks just seemed to glance right off him...

Also he's definitely been making terrible breakfast-related puns all day.

But now school is out, and Yu waits just outside, fiddling around on his phone. He's already texted Yosuke where he'll be, so now he just needs to wait for his friend to show up.

If he seems kind of flustered, well, that's like, just your imagination, man. ]

[ It's absolutely hideous, as Yosuke thought. Has Yosuke honestly suffered enough for some help with his homework? He hopes so. He can only take so many mental hits over a 30 day period before he suffers a serious blow to his mental faculties, which are reportedly compromised by distractions most of the time anyway.

TL;DR, the scarf is awful.

But Yu is okay. (And admittedly Yosuke isn't the kind of person to agree to meet someone and then bail, even if their fashion sense is whack.) So Yosuke does show up, giving a short wave goodbye to a couple of classmates of his before sauntering up to Yu. ]

[ Souji and Yosuke have been hanging out here and there nowadays. Whether it's just catching food downtown or chilling around, it's not that surprising that they're spending another Saturday together. That's what friends do, right? Souji certainly doesn't mind it and in fact, he actually quite likes it. It's fun and he always has a good time, so he just waits for Yosuke to arrive at their meet-up spot in Tisse so they can walk around and figure out what they wanna do. ]

[ That is exactly what friends do. Arguably Souji is the more outspoken of the twins, so he and Yosuke click pretty quickly. He had a morning shift at Freshens but just about lunch time Yosuke is off and on the streets to spend his weekend the way it should be--freely. So is he excited to hang out with one of his friends? Yes.

It just kind of feels like that's how it's always been. Yosuke chalks it up to the fact Souji is such a laid back guy. He doesn't want to come off as too weird or needy, after all. "Hey, thanks for saving me from that trash can. By the way, do you want to hang out this weekend? And after school? And next weekend too?"

No. He has more chill than that.

But it doesn't diminish the smile he offers as he spots Souji on his approach. ]

[ And then Yosuke's inbox was just twin double teaming.

ANYWAY, Yu texted Yosuke sometime mid-morning asking if his friend might want to eat lunch together. He's actually made enough for both of them, just in case. (It's curry.) He wasn't really sure if-- does Yosuke bring his own lunch or get something at school? Will he even want anything Yu made? God, this case of nerves is eating him alive.

Any. Way. He's just kind of leaning against a wall in the hallway waiting for Yosuke to show up, a bag hanging off his arm as he fiddles with his phone. Small, nervous movements, though anyone who doesn't know him well might not know them for such. Outwardly he seems as calm as ever even if inside he's buzzing.

He's not even sure if he-- isn't he being forward? Moving too quickly? He and Yosuke are still getting to know each other, even if he thinks Yosuke is cute and the other boy's smile is something he's come to look forward to maybe a little too much. They study together now, for both their shared classes, and the more time they spend together, just talking and texting and being in each other's space, the worse this feeling gets. Yosuke is ... he's cute, and funny, and surprisingly sweet, and either, like, painfully straight, or kind of closeted. Jury's still out.

He has to stop thinking about this. If Yosuke picks up on the hints in the playlist, then... then they'll go from there. In the meantime, he's got to just... breathe. ]

[ As it should be.

In all seriousness, Yosuke has absolutely no reason to think that something is amiss. Actually, he's pretty stoked that he's been getting along with the twins so well. He has been lucky to meet a lot of people since moving to Recolle, although forming any meaningful relationships has been more difficult. Sure, he's got a good number of classmates and buddies he would hang out with, but never quite close enough. (His cousin definitely doesn't count.)

He's clicked quickly and easily with the twins. And since they're going to graduate this year, he might as well use what few months he's got with them at the same school.

Also, he's hungry. His mother makes his lunch about half of the time and the other half Yosuke fends for himself. So he's more than happy to give one of those days up for something else. He's not sure what Yu has in mind, but after the cafe, he trusts the guy's taste.

When he spots Yu leaning against the wall, Yosuke raises his hand in greeting. ]

Yo!

[ His gaze falls to the bag as he approaches. ]

Oh, shit, we were supposed to bring something?

In truth Yu had really been hoping that his friend might actually take to swim practice - though, in hindsight, maybe accidentally conning him into it hadn't been the best way to go about it. And now Yosuke's mad and...

He pretty much deserves it.

It's with his heart in his throat that he sends a text later that same night. He's gotta face the music somehow, and if he ends up losing Yosuke as a friend, then ... well ... at least he'll have tried.

(Dammit, why doesn't this stuff ever occur to him before he messes everything up?) ]

Would you be willing to meet me tomorrow? Maybe during lunch? I ... I'd like to apologize.

[ Yosuke definitely hadn't been happy. He'd gone to practice with the understanding that he'd be supporting Yu, not that he'd been taking part. Of course he was confused, then upset and a little overwhelmed by the team's, um, enthusiasm. Even though he'd eventually grinned and beaded it to get it over with, he'd left leaving little to his irritation.

Yes, he was annoyed.

But it was hardly the worst thing someone has done to him. (Tying him to the flagpole and the pageant are much higher up there.)

So when he sees Yu's text, he is a little surprised. ]

[ Hm? Yosuke probably shouldn't even be awake, but you know, he hasn't been sleeping much lately. Too much time dicking around on his phone, really. (He could be studying but finals are over so who cares?) So it's not exactly a surprise that Yu is texting him. They've been hanging out a lot recently and honestly most of his texts have been from Yu, too. No big.

[ Yu takes some time on the party bus ride back to school to shoot off a text.

You'll be there?

He can hardly look at his phone on the way. Everyone is lower key now, people running out of energy. Some are still loud and excited, but some students are leaning on each other, dozing or talking quietly as the bus drives them back. Back to family, back to homes and beds.

Back to those who wait for them.

Yu will quietly bid good night to anyone with him - Souji included, with a significant look - befor he strikes out in search of who he knows is waiting.

He's not disappointed. He'll pause when he sees Yosuke, his heart in his throat, but it's a good feeling. Warm and fizzy and...

Nice. ]

Hey. [ He'll smile that warm scrunched up kinda smile that's so genuine, all his defenses down, such a rare look on his face. ] Hope I didn't keep you waiting.

[ There are so many layers of meaning to that statement. ]

[ Yosuke was planning on going home, sleeping for a few hours, and then showing up at the school like he promised, fresh and ready for--whatever it is that they're doing.

That so didn't happen.

Yosuke stayed behind, helping clean up after the graduation ceremony as well as some of the general area thanks to the sprinklers. He's had an abundance of energy all of a sudden in stark contrast to how tired he's been from not sleeping much the night before. So with that, Yosuke rode his bike to grab something to eat, then came home, hung out with his mom in the kitchen for a while--she noticed he was bouncy--and then ran upstairs.

Sleep.

Yeah, sleep didn't happen. Especially when he started to get little texts from Yu over the course of the night. He didn't want to seem desperate, though he responded almost immediately to most of them, Yosuke tried to space the rest out and give the impression he wasn't just awkwardly rolling around on his bed without knowing how to spend his time.

He tried watching TV, playing some games online, but nothing could really keep his attention. It was only around midnight that Yosuke was able to doze for about half an hour, wake up to another text, responded, then dozed again for another twenty minutes. So that's almost a full hour of almost sleeping.

Accomplishment?

Yes.

Well, he certainly doesn't need the sleep because he's still running on adrenaline. He made it to the school about fifteen minutes until 2, unable to keep still. Pacing by the bike rack and kept him as occupied as he could be. When he hears the sounds of the buses rolling up, he's suddenly even more awake.

As Yu approaches, he tries to calm himself.

His heart catches in his throat with that face. ]

I, um...

[ Yeah, he can sense the layers and with no real good response, he just laughs, a little awkward and a little giddy. ]

I just got here.

[ He glances behind Yu, back towards the crowd of sleepy graduates as they find their designated rides home. ]

So...Souji's going home?

[ It's just us, right? ]
